Here's a brief description of the process I used to create this illustration,
featured in Step-by-Step Electronic Design Magazine.

After a few pencil sketches, I create a composition that I like.

I scan the sketch and draw over it in Abobe Illustrator.

I import the elements into Photoshop, each on it's own layer. Next I open the illustration in Corel Painter and paint each element using Painter's extensive brush library and a Wacom tablet. The natural feel of Painter gives the finished composition an organic, hand painted look.
